About our Governors

Carol Worsley

As KS2-3 Transition Co-ordinator for a local High school, it made sense to find out more about how the primary schools who sent children to us functioned. Becoming a governor was an excellent way to achieve this as well as providing an opportunity to use my many years of experience in education for the benefit of the school. Encouraged by the previous Headteacher to get involved, I joined the Governing Body over 11 years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges this has provided; I became Chair of Governors in 2012. It has delighted me to see how the school's standards have improved over recent years and truly exciting to be part of the current expansion process. The new building is a long awaited and much deserved quality environment for pupils and staff to teach and learn in and I am convinced will help to push up standards even further. Now retired from teaching, continuing as a Governor is helping me to keep in touch with the world of education and the families who are part of the local community.

Hello. My name is James Cowley and I am one of the school’s Co-opted Governors.  My daughter Aimee is currently in Year 5 and my daughter Sophia is in year 1.  Aimee is thriving and I want to ensure the education, support and life skills that she is experiencing continue to be at the forefront of all children’s time at the school.  My background is in charity work as well as youth work.  I am passionate about young people fulfilling their potential.  I am a trained youth worker with a Level 3 NVQ in youth work.  I have also worked with young people outside of school and helped run a youth club at the Oak Tree Centre.

My name is Susan Jones.  I have been a Governor for three years.  I am a Local Authority Governor.  I work in Y1 at Perryfields Primary. I enjoy being involved in all areas of the school.

Hello, I’m Julie Bedesha and I am currently a Staff Governor and Year 4 teacher at the school. I have experience in Year 2 and recently qualified as a Key Stage One moderator which has enabled me to work with other teachers in the borough. My daughter attended the school when it was one form entry and thoroughly enjoyed her primary education in a safe, nurturing and enabling environment. I feel privileged to work in such a caring school and am widening my knowledge and experience in education through the governor role.

My previous experience has been in the private and public sector which helps me balance workload, needs of pupils and parents as well as meeting deadlines and school expectations and targets. Being a small part of a child’s learning journey is immensely rewarding and the school is supportive and keen to help staff develop further.

Hello, I am James Beckingham one of your elected Parent Governors. My son Oscar is currently in Reception and my daughter will hopefully be joining Perryfields in 2016. My eldest son Alex has worked his way through Perryfields and is now enjoying his time in Year 7 at the High School. Alex thrived in his 7 years at Perryfields and I want to ensure the education, support and life skills he experienced continue to be at the forefront of all our children's time here.

My background is in business, having previously been a General Manager in the leisure/hospitality industry. I have recently changed careers and am now an Academic Coach at Oldbury Academy, working with Key Stage 4 students, helping them achieve their expected progress, particularly the C/D borderline pupils.

I have a very active home life, with three children and a menagerie of pets keeping me busy! In what little free time I have I enjoy baking, especially with the children and rambling, both on foot and vocally.

Caleb Sanders

I have been involved with Perryfields Primary School since joining as a Co-opted governor in 2014. My daughter really enjoys going to the school and I wanted to be involved with the school as well. I have worked for West Midlands Police since transferring from the Ministry of Defence Police and I volunteer for a local charity.

Mrs Taj Gill

I am a proud parent Governor at Perryfields Primary School, serving my 2nd term, and designated class governor to current Year 6.  Most of my career background has been in customer relationship management and sales.  As an individual I feel I’m very approachable, a good listener and problem solver.  Being part of the Governing body is a very challenging but rewarding role. We aim to ensure that we, as a team, govern and help the Head and staff steer the school towards great heights and achievements.  At all times we challenge and support the school to provide a good quality education and make certain that school performance levels are met.  We also ensure there is clarity of vision and that all strategic decisions are actioned.

Gavin Epstein

Hello, my name is Gavin Epstein and I am a Parent Governor.  My daughter Serenity is currently at Perryfields Primary School and I also have a teenage son Cameron. My career background is in the Engineering/Manufacturing sector where I have held leadership positions within blue chip organisations. During my career, I have had wide-ranging involvement in operations, buildings maintenance, procurement, human resources and functional compliance.

Just like every other parent at Perryfields Primary School, I want the very best for my children. I want them to be happy, confident and become the very best they can be. The role of Governor will provide me with an opportunity to support the existing Governors to ensure our children have an excellent education and experience during their time at primary school. It is my firm belief that my skills in leadership and governance gained from business are transferable, enabling me to help further improve the school.

As part of the Governing Board I will pick the special responsibility roles of Health & Safety Governor and Reception Year Link Governor in addition to being a member of both the Learning and Progress Committee and the Site, Premises, Finance and Personnel Committee.
