As part of diversity day, year 5 studied the artist Esther Mahlangu. They were most fascinated by the fact that she had painted on a BMW and couldn’t wait to have a go at recreating her work. The children began with using a black pen to outline the patterns they wanted to use and shapes they wanted to include. They then folded their paper to create the traditional shape of a house. Year 5 have had a fantastic day with the Viking man. We have looked at lots of replica tools, weapons and utensils, at the types of clothes they wore, how they lived and how they fought. We then took part in a battle re-enactment with our own shields.
Today we have been conducting a Science investigation to identify which materials are conductors and which are insulators. We then concluded that all metal objects conduct electricity and cardboard, paper and plastic all insulate.
Last week we had a visit from the CO crew. First thing in the morning we had an assembly with Julie and Al to learn about Carbon Monoxide. We realised that you can't hear it, smell it, taste it, touch it or see it! We learnt that you need to have a special detector...
