Today we learnt all about the importance of the Roman shield. We learnt why they were slightly curved, not only to protect the body but also to join together to form a ‘wall’ in the testudo formation. Then how the ‘boss’ in the centre of the shield was used and how vital to deflect spears and swords. We then designed our own Roman shield.
