In pre-school the children are always learning through their play. When we are making and using playdough what are children learning?

Cognitive Development
Children explore early concepts such as shape, size, pattern, and problem‑solving as they create and manipulate dough.

Communication & Language
Children learn new vocabulary (e.g., roll, flatten, squeeze, press) and talk about their ideas and creations.

Creativity & Imagination
Children use play dough and loose parts to express ideas, create models, and engage in imaginative play.

Physical Development
Children strengthen fine‑motor muscles through squeezing, rolling, cutting, pinching, and moulding dough.

Social & Emotional Development
Children share tools, take turns, create together, and feel proud of their finished dough creations.

Understanding the World
Children explore materials, textures, and changes as dough is shaped, stretched, or combined with tools.

Sensory Exploration

Children develop sensory awareness as they explore texture, pressure, movement, resistance, and enjoy added sensory elements such as herbs, spices, natural materials, colours, and scents mixed into the dough.

Our play dough area encourages children to explore, experiment, strengthen their hands, and express their creativity through hands‑on learning!
