This week, the Story Fairy sent us the much‑loved story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to share together. The children thoroughly enjoyed the story, and it inspired some wonderful curiosity about the little creatures we might find outdoors.
To build on this interest, we set off on our own mini beast hunt! Armed with magnifying glasses, we explored our mud kitchen and outdoor area, carefully lifting pots and looking inside planters to see what might be hiding beneath.
We were delighted to discover lots of fascinating creatures, including wiggly earthworms, woodlice, a spider, snails and even some ladybirds. Throughout our exploration, we talked about the importance of being kind and gentle to insects and living creatures, making sure we looked after them and returned them safely to their homes.
The children were completely captivated by what they found and asked if we could do the activity again. We’re looking forward to heading back out on a sunnier day, when we hope to spot some bees and butterflies too!
It’s been lovely to see the children developing their curiosity, respect for nature and confidence as little explorers. 🌼🐞
