Today we have extended our knowledge about the topic of washing hands. We watched some videos and learnt about germs: what they are, how we can’t see them and what they do.
The first experiment we did involved some paint and each other. We painted our hands and held hands, touched objects and door handles and saw how the paint (germs) spread from objects and each other. Then, we washed our hands with water, then with water and soap and saw the difference in how many germs disappeared.
The second experiment we did involved pepper, water and soap. The pepper in the water represented germs. When we put our un-soapy finger in the water, the pepper stuck to it. However, when we dipped a soapy clean finger in the water, the germs repelled and didn’t cling to our fingers.
We have understood how washing our hands with soap is very important and how germs are there but are so small we cannot see them.
