Over the past few weeks we have been investigating sound in Science. We have learnt how the inner ear helps us to hear, all about sound waves and how sounds travels. We have also used a drum to show vibrations ( we needed a little rice for this!) This week we used the iPads as decibel readers. We visited 5 different areas of the school to identify which parts were the loudest and which were the quietest. We were surprised by just how loud some parts of school were! Sustained volume over 70 dB can cause hearing loss and the hall while a PE lesson was taking place was reading 126 dB!!!! Luckily it was only for a short burst of time.
