26th March 2025

The theme for Science week 2025 (7th – 14th March) was ‘Change and Adapt’. In Year 3, we experimented with changing sounds by altering the amount of water in identical glass bottles. The pitch was lower when there was more water in the bottle and higher with less water. We discussed how sound travels and that the amount of air in the bottle also played a part.

We also learned that the opposite is true when you blow across the top of the bottle. This time, the more air there was, the lower the pitch less air produced a higher pitch note.
